The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, Department of Empowerment for PWDs (Divyangjan) under its Gramin Punarvasan Yojana had selected over 310 districts in various states in the country to set District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) in collaboration with respective District Administration/DMT and State Govt. Departments, with a concept of providing comprehensive rehabilitations services to the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under one roof.

District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC-Ahmedabad ) was established in July- 2001 by Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay National Institute for the Physically Handicapped, New Delhi, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, and in Novembar-2003, has been handed over to AYJNIHH, Mumbai. This centre is again handed over to District Management Team (DMT) Under the Chairpersonship of DM & Collector, Ahmedabad after completed the five years duration by Ali Yavar Jang National Institute of Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH) Mumbai in 14th November-2006.

Now this centre registered under society Act -1860 & Mumbai Public trust, and PWDs act-2016 is running under the Chairpersonship of District Collector, Ahmedabad, Gujarat and with the collaboration of Deptt. of Social Justice & Empowerment and Health Department Govt. of Gujarat at O’ Block, Civil Hospital, Asarwa, Ahmedabad and with continuously technical help from AYJNIHH, Mumbai.
